Easter Parties

Easter is a time for new hope, when we begin to put behind the gloom of the winter months, and at Superkidz it is a particularly happy time. Every Easter, we organize Easter parties for the children who come to our clubs. Many come from families who struggle to put daily food on the table, let alone buy an Easter egg. Many live in very cramped conditions, with little space for family and festival celebrations. The Superkidz Easter parties provide space, music, Easter stories, food and fun. We can bring 300 primary aged children together at the Easter parties, where they will join in with songs, activities, a picnic, magic show and gunging of one of our youth workers! Then, they will each leave with their own Easter egg.

The children’s Easter clubs are supervised by youth workers, but will also provide paid employment for between ten and fifteen sessional workers at each club. These sessional workers will be some of the young people engaged in our mentoring programme. At this year’s parties, Sessional Worker Shelley helped lead the games and singing. Shelley, whose name we have changed to protect her privacy, is a teenage mum whose drug-dealer partner is in police custody after being violent towards her. The money she earns through Superkidz sessional work helps her to put food on the table for her daughter, and helps her to resist her partner’s attempts to re-establish a dangerous relationship.

We don’t give hand-outs, but we do believe in giving youngsters a hand up into paid work. Please provide Easter hope for Shelley and her colleagues: £9.40 will provide Shelley, or another sessional worker, with an hour of paid work; £18.80 will cover her costs for one club session. £37.60 will pay for two sessional workers for one club session and £75.20 will keep Shelley in work for a month.

And if you want your giving to go further, why not give a monthly payment? This will make a real sustainable difference to Shelley and others like her, and help them to make a difference to the children in the clubs.
